View of the settlement of Dryopida, Kythnos
Vasilopoulou N.
Colour photographic view of the settlement of Dryopida on Kythnos, photographed from the west by N. Vasilopoulou. The photograph presents the Galatas neighbourhood in the traditional village, with white houses and characteristic tiled roofs that distinguish it from typical Cycladic architecture. This tradition is linked to emigrant workers in the brick kilns of Athens, who brought back to their homeland the custom of tiled roofing. In the background stretch the island’s barren hills with dry-stone walls and terraces, where three abandoned windmills can be seen along the ridge. To the left on the hill stands the chapel of Agia Paraskevi, while at the centre of the neighbourhood rises the bell tower of the church of Saint Minas.
