The “Ellinokamara” cave in Kasos
Rafailidis Kimon
Colour photographic view of the entrance to the rock shelter of Ellinokamara on Kasos, photographed by K. Rafailidis. The rock shelter lies on the island’s northern coast, near the village of Agia Marina. The photograph depicts the monumental wall of large carved limestone blocks sealing the natural entrance to the cave. It was built at the end of the 5th century BC and survives almost intact to this day. The cave was used as a dwelling from prehistoric times and later as a sanctuary.
