The Avenue of the Lions on Delos
Kontos Nikos
Black-and-white photographic depiction of the Lions of Delos. Dedicated by the Naxians around 600 BC, they are placed on pedestals along one side of the “Terrace of the Lions”, which began at the archaic harbour and led to the Sanctuary. The statues, carved from Naxian marble, are represented seated in a vigilant pose, with elongated bodies and raised heads. To the right a group of tourists can be seen.
