View of the port and Chora of Kalymnos
Kontos Nikos
Colour photographic depiction of the harbour and settlement of Chora (Pothia) on Kalymnos, photographed from the north-east by N. Kontos and N. Mavrogenis. In the foreground dominate the large white boulders of the quay, to which traditional caiques are moored. In the middle ground stretches the settlement with its white houses, the public buildings along the waterfront and the church of Saint Nicholas to the left. Higher up, on the summit of the wooded hill of Saint Savvas, can be seen the chapel of Saint Peter and a large white cross. On the opposite peak to the right, perched at the edge of the steep rock, stands the Monastery of Saint Savvas the New of Kalymnos.
