Colour photographic depiction of a neighbourhood view in Mesaria (Chora) on Kythnos, photographed by N. Vasilopoulou. The whitewashed houses are shown with built external staircases leading to upper-floor balconies, wooden frames painted in green and brown shades, and tiled roofs, a tradition mainly resulting from the ceramic work of emigrant labourers in the kilns of Athens who later introduced this urban custom to their homeland. In the foreground can be seen the cement-paved alley with painted white joints.
