Drying figs in the courtyard of a house in Dryopida, Kythnos
Vasilopoulou N.
Colour photographic view of a courtyard and the façades of traditional houses in Dryopida on Kythnos, photographed by N. Vasilopoulou. The photograph highlights the distinctive architecture of the Cycladic settlement with its tiled roofs, a tradition largely owed to emigrant workers in the brick kilns of Athens who later brought back the urban custom of tiled roofing. In the courtyard and on low walls figs are spread out to dry in the sun.
