View of the settlement of Dryopida, Kythnos
Lehmann Ingeborg
Colour photographic view of the settlement of Dryopida on Kythnos, photographed from the west by I. Lehmann in 1976. The photograph presents an elevated view of the Galatas neighbourhood with its stone-built houses, most of them whitewashed, and their tiled roofs, which distinguish it from typical Cycladic architecture. This tradition is linked to emigrant workers in the brick kilns of Athens, who brought back to their homeland the custom of tiled roofing. At the summit of the amphitheatrical arrangement of the houses dominates the church of Saint Minas with its twin bell tower and clock.
